Celebrating Photography in Local History Month

We were really inspired by a talk that local historian Malcolm Culshaw gave last week in Ingleton. Malcolm, who has lived in Ingleton for over 50 years, found out about the Creative Residencies projects when he attended the unveiling of the sculpture created by artist Jaki Bogg. When we told him we’d be running Photography workshops in the Summer he mentioned that he had a collection of old photographic slides of Ingleton, and he offered to put on a slideshow and a talk to help generate interest in the project. We nearly bit his hand off! Here are some of the highlights from his talk….

Malcolm shows us where the old railway line to the quarry used to be.

The building of the Community Centre in the early 1970s. This where the station used to be, and where the library is now.

A big ton of rubble! This tower used to be on top of Ingleborough, but only for a very short time. On it's official opening night it was knocked down in a drunken brawl! The remains can still be seen at the top of Ingleborough today.

We’re really looking forward to when the Photography Skills Workshops start in July. The artist we’ll be working with is Rebecca Heim who is based in Leeds. The first workshops will be at Ingleton Library on Friday 11th July from  2 – 4.30 pm, and then the week after on Saturday 19th July where we’ll be encouraging you all to take photos of Gala Day in Ingleton, and then throughout the Summer! We want you take photos where ever and whenever you are – on days trips, on nights out, in the morning or in the evening. You can use any camera you like, whether it’s on your phone, tablet, or your Nikon (other Cameras are available), we’d like you chronicle your life in Ingleton…

Saturday with Jaki – Eastfield 10th May part 1

Wow! What an amazing morning we had with Jaki, there was a real buzz in the library and we had fun creating some lovely small prints and paintings to help make the bigger piece.

We loved to see Suzanne's thoughtful approach to her prints
